VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT

The key to engaging your volunteers - Rosterfy

Rosterfy have pulled together a list of ways in which you can better engage with your volunteers.

Keeping volunteers engaged continues to be one of the biggest challenges for any Volunteer Manager.

COVID-19 has added an extra layer of complexity when it comes to engaging and retaining your volunteers. With volunteers unable to help out physically at your events, you may be questioning how you can still remain connected to your volunteer community and ensure their ongoing commitment to your organization, cause and/or event. Rosterfy is here to help!

The key to engaging volunteers

Over the next few months, Rosterfy will continue to share some creative tips for how to engage your existing volunteers and may even help you to recruit a few more!

  1. Refresh your Volunteer Handbook. Use this time to update/ create a Volunteer Handbook that contains important information including job descriptions, recruitment processes and volunteer expectations. This type of document is very much appreciated by volunteers who will have a go to guide for volunteering for your organization, cause and/or event.

  2. Focus Group. Taking the time to learn from your volunteers is something we rarely have time to do but its importance can’t be underestimated. Engage with your volunteers and invite them to join a series of focus groups to determine how they rate your volunteer management plan. These findings can then be presented back to your volunteers, which reaffirms your commitment to enhancing their volunteer experience.

  3. Training. Do your volunteers need to complete training modules to be a part of your event? Why not get this ticked off now? Make your training modules available now to allow your volunteers the opportunity to complete these now whilst they may have a little more time on their hands. You may also want to embark on new training as a manager. Check out these great volunteer management training resources.

  4. Data Cleanse. Let's face it, every once in a while we need to do a big clean out and now seems like as good a time as any. Send out a survey to determine who is an active and inactive volunteer. Give each of your volunteers a call to check in and find out how they're doing to connect in meaningful ways. This information will be extremely helpful, come time for rostering your event and will ensure you have an accurate idea of how many volunteers you have on your team.

We'll have plenty more tips to come! Stay tuned for more insights on how to best engage your volunteers and as always, if you would like to discuss any of the above in more detail, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
