Celebrating Women in Technology: Reflecting on Progress and Embracing the Future
International Women’s Day (IWD) serves as an important reminder to reflect on the remarkable progress women have made across various industries, and the technology sector is no exception. It is a day to celebrate achievements, acknowledge the ongoing challenges, and amplify the voices of women who are shaping the future. As we celebrate this special occasion, it is essential to recognise how the technology ecosystem for women has evolved — and where there's still work to be done.
A Brief History of Women in Tech and International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day has been celebrated since 1911, when the movement began to call attention to the ongoing struggle for gender equality. Over the years, we’ve seen incredible progress, but in many industries, women continue to fight for equal representation and access
to opportunities. The technology sector, which historically has been male-dominated, has been a central part of this journey. As recently as the late 1990s and early 2000s, women held only 25% of tech jobs globally. However, with the rise of the digital age, women in technology have steadily begun to break barriers.
The Impact of Women in Technology at Rosterfy
At Rosterfy, we are proud of the strong women who drive innovation, foster collaboration, and lead the charge for positive change. Our team is a diverse mix of individuals, many of whom have overcome significant barriers to carve out successful careers in the tech space. These women are not only instrumental in the day-to-day operations of our company, but they also serve as role models, advocates, and mentors for the next generation of female tech leaders.
To celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, we’ve profiled some of the wonderful women at Rosterfy, recognising the significant impact they make within the company and more broadly with the volunteering and tech community.

On women in tech, Keri is excited by the growing representation and believes there’s no limit to where women can succeed.

Tom Goren
Chief Product Officer. Empowering Growth and Diversity: A Journey Through Technology and Leadership
Tom's journey in technology began with a childhood passion for creating solutions and inventing creative “products”. She actively pursued a product role, gaining experience and climbing the product leadership ladder. Along the way, Tom enriched her skill set through strategic detours into product marketing and corporate development. Now, as an advisor and coach, she focuses on helping others reach their potential. Tom is passionate about advocating for underrepresented groups, striving to create inclusive, authentic environments where diversity thrives. While women in tech have made progress, she believes there is still work to be done.

Marian Casey
Head of Partnerships. Continual growth and finding career opportunities through volunteering.
Marian has worked in STEM for the last 20 years, but is new to the technology industry. She has always had a keen interest in systems, automation, and using platforms to add value to medical education at universities, including 3D printing models, eLearning, 3D imaging, and interactive video production. What Marian has learnt is the need for continuous opportunities and building curiosity in young women about what new careers and projects are out there. She has developed volunteering programs in the University sector, volunteered with CSIRO Scientists in Schools, and has been a mentor for a young person the Warrior Woman Foundation; all focusing on showing young women non-traditional ways to work in the STEM. Marian is currently the Deputy Commissioner of Volunteering of St John Ambulance NSW, supporting over 3,500 volunteers in her spare time. Within her new role at Rosterfy, she has an interest in how we can use technology to drive social impact and increase the ease of volunteering.
Empowering Women Through Volunteering
One of the most empowering aspects of Rosterfy’s company culture is the opportunity for women to volunteer and give back to their communities. Volunteering is a powerful tool that not only benefits those in need but also enhances personal growth, leadership skills, and strengthens the bonds within our teams. Many of the women at Rosterfy actively volunteer, whether it’s through professional initiatives that promote women in STEM or community projects supporting local charities.
In fact, Keri Castellanos’ personal journey as a volunteer emphasises the importance of finding a work-life balance. Her dedication to volunteerism has allowed her to contribute to causes she cares about, and it’s something that she integrates into her work at Rosterfy. Volunteering not only benefits her personal fulfilment but also empowers others to join causes they care about, especially in tech, where women can often feel isolated in male-dominated spaces.
Looking Ahead: A Celebratory Outlook for Women in Tech
The future is bright for women in technology. It’s inspiring to see women from all walks of life make significant strides in roles that were once considered unconventional for women. From tech startups to established giants, women are taking on pivotal roles in engineering, leadership, product development, and innovation. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s exciting to witness more women breaking the glass ceiling and leading the way.
However, there is still much work to be done. Women still face challenges in accessing leadership roles, securing mentorship, and maintaining work-life balance in the tech world. The need for systemic change in education, workplace practices, and policies that encourage female participation in STEM is urgent. We must also continue to push for more inclusive workplaces where women are given the resources, opportunities, and platforms to succeed.
Despite these challenges, we are encouraged by the growing presence of women in tech and the change-makers within organisations like Rosterfy. Our commitment to mentorship, diversity, and inclusion ensures that we continue to build an ecosystem where women not only thrive but are empowered to shape the future of technology.
A Call to Action
On International Women’s Day, let’s not only celebrate the achievements of women in technology but also renew our commitment to breaking down the barriers that remain. At Rosterfy, we are proud of the women who are leading the way and contributing to the tech landscape. But we also know that there is more to be done. Let’s continue to empower women, challenge the status quo, and inspire the next generation of tech innovators.
The future of tech is female — and we are just getting started.
Happy International Women’s Day from Rosterfy!
